PAT State Leader: Dunebrook coordinates the PAT Training Team and serves as the Indiana State Leader providing advocacy, consultation, and networking opportunities for Parents as Teachers programs across the state.

If you/your staff are certified PAT home visitors, recertification status is current and PAT services are being provided to families, Parents as Teachers National Office considers you a “PAT Affiliate”. Between now and July, 2014 retraining will be required to become familiar with the new curricula release and PAT Quality Assurance Guidelines/Essential Requirements. The flow chart above outlines Parents as Teachers TRAINING PATHWAYS. Please contact Gail Johnson to further explain these processes if needed.
Parents as Teachers NEW curricula version is being released. As a result, training requirements have been modified. PLEASE CONTACT GAIL JOHNSON WITH ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT TRAINING OF NEW AND/OR EXISTING STAFF
The entire Parents as Teachers P-3 training continues to be 5 days
P-3 FOUNDATIONAL TRAINING
(Required for all new Parent Educators)
(Also strongly encouraged for all Supervisors)
This three-day training lays the foundation for home visiting as a methodology within the early childhood system and connects the theoretical framework of Parents as Teachers with practice, introducing three main areas of emphasis in the Parents as Teachers approach:
- Parent-Child Interaction – Learn about the change process and how to use reflective process to engage parents in their growth.
- Development-Centered Parenting – Seven developmental topics that inform parenting decisions are covered here. Learn to understand parents’ perspectives and to facilitate their ability to problem solve.
- Family Well-being – Achieve greater understanding of each family’s system and partner with parents to strengthen protective factors
P-3 MODEL IMPLEMENTATION TRAINING
(Required for all new Parent Educators and Supervisors of PAT Affiliates)
After attending P-3 Foundational Training, the remainder of the training week will be targeted for Model Implementation Training. To attend this training, you must have an affiliate plan on file. After completing Foundational Training, you will continue into Model Implementation Training. This two-day training builds on Foundational Training and is designed for parent educators whose programs meet the requirements for affiliation. Model Implementation Training is required for Supervisors.
Model Implementation Training incorporates the parents as Teachers Quality Assurance Guidelines and offers implementation strategies and evidence-based practices that help your organization fully understand and bring to life quality Parents as Teachers services. Learn how to successfully replicate the Parents as Teachers model and explore strategies not covered in Foundational Training. Demonstrating accountability, evaluation and outcomes is a theme woven throughout.
RETRAINING FOR EXISTING PARENT EDUCATORS
(AND THEIR SUPERVISORS)
(Required for all existing program staff by July, 2014)
Born to Learn certified parent educators will attend the three-day Foundational Training (see full description above) and be introduced to new concepts for working with families, assuring a smooth transition for those trained in the Born to Learn approach as programs move toward model fidelity. Look for “Retraining” opportunities to be scheduled and offered by mid-2011and beyond.
