Dunebrook in Wonderland - Sept 14, 2007A cheshire cat, frantic rabbit, and a little girl named Alice… What could these characters possibly have in common with Dunebrook?
The recipient of the Lester W. Radke Annual Service Award will be recognized on this special evening. The award, created in Radke’s honor, recognizes someone who has gone above and beyond for Dunebrook. Past winners in addition to Radke include Joe Coar and Rebecca Fistel.
Dunebrook’s annual event is known for its signature silent auction pots. Local businesses and artists are invited to display their creativity through their unique presentation of their auction items. In the past, both a lamp and a water fountain crafted out of the pot. The auction brings a diverse selection of gift certificates, dining opportunities, fine wine, home décor, artwork, sports items, just to name a few, with a range of values to suit every taste and budget. Bidders enjoy the competitive spirit of the auction, knowing that Dunebrook’s programs benefit from the proceeds. Steel drum percussionist Kent Arnsbarger returns to Dunebrook’s annual event with his sounds of the Caribbean. The featured entertainment is magician Steve Kellogg, who has appeared nationally, throughout Chicagoland and locally with his sleight of hand and illusionist talent. Steve is the son-in-law of board member Bruce Manner. A special feature of this year’s event will be a showcase of artwork from children who have participated in programs at Dunebrook. Alice, the Cheshire Cat, the white rabbit and all of their nonsensical friends will be displayed, as imagined by the minds of young boys and girls. The event is casual dress and includes a delicious hors d’oeuvres buffet. The Wonderland will even feature a “tea party”. Individual ticket prices are $40 each. Sponsorships and program advertisements are also available at various levels. Donations for the silent auction are also encouraged. With more than 250 people expected to attend, the event is a great way to advertise the merchants and service providers who make our community great.
